Working to Work It Out

Day 205: July 26th

I admit it: I’m a nag. Or, rather, my internal editor is a nag — and a serious nag, at that. I find that when I’m writing best, I’m doing something else — learning something new, or returning to something that I know occupies my mind. Usually, it’s a physical activity, something which occupies my hands and my body and my full attention long enough to let my editor take a break and my subconscious do its work. When I worked on my witch project, I worked out obsessively, lifting weights and going through strength training. This time around, I can’t exactly do that, so I’ve decided to try something new: cooking. It’s something I’ve tried before, but it’s never really stuck. This time, perhaps because I’m determined to stick to this daily writing regimen, I’m also determined to stick to cooking — and healthy cooking. Behold, above, my roasted corn salad with quinoa and home-grown chives!

(And now I notice a link between living healthily and writing daily.  Hmmm …)
